A year after inheriting her great-aunt's cottage and shop, Margaret Ashworth has stopped waiting and started to grow. The Bramble & Bee is open, the herb garden is green, and the village has learned to come in out of the rain. But Willowmere's summer brings more than roses.
A boy plants a packet of seeds against his grandmother's grief. An injured hart—the guardian of the wood itself—is dying, and to mend it Margaret must give away a green she did not know she had, and learn the hardest lesson of all: how to be kept instead of keeping.
When a silver-tongued developer arrives with a reasonable plan to buy the half-dead orchard, the whole valley must remember what it is for. And when an old smith steps off the lane with his father's hammer and a hundred and forty years of making behind him, a broken circle begins, one ring at a time, to come back together.
Warm, wise, and quietly funny, The Green Summer is the second book of The Willowmere Chronicles—a story of found family, second chances, and the magic that grows, not in youth, but in the fullness of a life that has finally learned to begin.
