Description

When law enforcement, the courts, and the prison system fail, there is a fourth and final option. #1 New York Times bestselling author Jack Carr launches a new thriller series.

Disillusioned by the government and institutions he dedicated his life to serving, former Navy SEAL and CIA ground branch operative Chris Walker is about to end his life when he receives a call that saves it. The wife of a teammate he lost in Afghanistan has now lost her son to the opioid crisis and needs Walker’s help. Thrust into a conspiracy that goes deeper than he ever imagined, Walker must go up against the system and the very Constitution he once swore an oath to support and defend in order to find justice for his friend’s widow.

With ambitious FBI agent Jarrett Stanton on his tail, Walker—accompanied by his loyal Belgian Malinois and using his off-the-grid VW pop-up camper filled with a hidden cache of weapons—takes the law into his own hands, exposing corruption and issuing a long-forgotten brand of lethal outlaw justice.

In the tradition of the great “stranger comes to town” Westerns of the past comes a modern interpretation of the mysterious vigilante gunslinger legend from “the hottest author on the thriller scene today” (The Real Book Spy). Get ready for a new kind of hero. Justice is coming.

A great story teller. I only wish it were longer.
  • A reverse Terminal List with a clone protagonist

Walker is pretty much a clone of Reece. Walker is asked to find out who killed the son of a SEAL/CIA friend. He has to develop his terminal list.

I just finished Jack Carr’s latest book, The Fourth Option. Jack is probably my favorite author right now. I have loved his books ever since The Terminal List. He has built James Reece into a character as recognizable as Jack Ryan, and now Tom Reece is quickly becoming a strong character as well. In The Fourth Option we are introduced to Chris Wagner, and Jack does a great job developing him throughout the story. This is where I go a little off the storyline itself. About a year ago I saw Jack mention a book by M.P. Woodward on Facebook. I picked one up, started reading his books, and quickly became a fan of his writing too. Later, when I saw Jack in person in Tampa, he mentioned he was starting a new series co-written with M.P. Woodward. Honestly, that immediately took away any skepticism I might have had because I already trusted Woodward as an author. What I have realized from reading and following Jack Carr is that he is first and foremost a reader himself, and he genuinely cares about the craft and about his fans. He is the reason that every time I walk through an airport bookstore I look for signed copies he may have left behind. I have also seen how he stays for hours taking pictures and talking with people. Those are things many authors simply do not do anymore. It feels like Jack is not pushing books out just to satisfy publishers. He is writing books for the fans. I just hope he never forgets that the way Patterson and Woods eventually seemed to. Back to the story. Chris Wagner quickly becomes a protagonist you care about, and Jack and M.P. build him well. They also introduce another great character tied to New Orleans. As someone who has spent a lot of time in NOLA, they absolutely nailed the setting. It felt like I was walking the streets with Chris as the story unfolded. Without giving away spoilers, just read the book and pay attention to Chris, Jarrett, Belle, and Granny. This is a great book. Thanks to Jack Carr and M.P. Woodward. I hope this partnership and series continue for a long time.
  • Philosophical action drama

Sometimes the philosophy was a little too much, but overall I liked what it brought to the character of Chris Walker. Fourth Option was a good, fast paced read.

I’ve read every single book Jack Carr has published currently. The Fourth Option has a slightly different approach than his other books, but the twists and turns keep coming one after the other right up to the end. Another job well done!
