Description

Delve into the thrilling first installment of the all-new Skye Druids series by New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant, where magic reigns and danger abounds. Skye isn’t just an island. It’s a home. A refuge. But not to Elodie MacLean. Not anymore. Tragedy tore her world apart and then took the one thing she felt made her whole. She vowed she’d never return, but that’s exactly where she ends up. Now, surrounded by the ghosts of her past, Elodie must navigate her version of Hell and try to make peace with herself and her family. But someone or something doesn’t want her on Skye, and she finds herself attacked—and this time not by her personal demons. Scott Ryan has a mission: uncover who has been killing Druids and why. When his quest takes him to the beautiful Isle of Skye, he doesn’t think anything could captivate him more than the land itself—until he lays eyes on the breathtaking and confident beauty his leader sent him to find. However, it’s clear that she has trust issues, and he can’t reveal his plans—at least, not yet. But he’s always been sure of his ability to sway a person, and she’s a challenge he's more than happy to accept, especially when he finds he will do anything to protect her. With so much history and so many secrets, victory is anything but guaranteed for the couple and their allies. And the forces at work, those who wish to rule the Scottish isle and all those who reside there, have a plan that nobody will see coming.

I am a huge fan of Donna Grant and truly love reading her books. For me, this book started a bit slow but once I continued reading, it hooked me. This is a new series and a spin-off from her other series. However, you do not have to read the other series to enjoy this one. I was looking forward to reading about the Druids of Skye and was not disappointed with this first book. Like Donna’s other series, once you read the first book, you get hooked and can’t wait for the next one, and this is how I feel about this new series. I don’t know how Donna continues to write enthralling characters that grasp you, make you feel like you know them personally, cheer for them, cry and laugh with them and truly hope the best for them. She has done it again with this book and I truly can’t wait for the next one.

Grant’s stories are lots of fun! Cool action, steamy sweet romance, exciting adventures, and interesting characters! Love the Isle of Skye setting, and the magic! There’s danger afoot when druids are being killed, so Elodie and Scott’s paths cross when they find themselves both having to deal with the killings. Attraction ignites, but there’s walls up and secrets causing issues; plus, the whole murderer on the loose causes some strife too. An entertaining read!
  • Thrilling, suspenseful first in series

My nails are gone. Iron Ember was a real nail biter. Druids are dying on Skye. Druids are dying in Edinburgh. Druids are dying in numerous other cities. Who is killing the Druids? Are the deaths all part of an elaborate scheme? Why are they killing Druids and can they be stopped? I had so many questions. I needed to know. The story grabbed me. The suspense was intense. I was obsessed with the story from the beginning. And then my obsession for Elodie and Scott took over. Elodie has returned to Skye after fifteen years. Things just aren't right. Her memories are a bit wishy washy. She fears those she shouldn't. She is living in the family cottage, the same cottage that her father was killed in. She can't open her parents bedroom door. There was a darkness surrounding the door. Like watching a Halloween movie, I just kept saying don't open the door. I didn't know why, but I knew it couldn't be good. Someone wants Elodie dead. I large limb covered in drough magic breaks the window in her parents room. A mist surrounds her home trying to gain entry as other druids are dying. This is just the beginning of Elodie's return to the Isle of Skye. Maybe there was a reason she stayed away for fifteen years. Iron Ember is an amazing story of "Who done it?". The author words painted a picture of the frustration experienced by Rhona, Balladyn and others from past books. The authors words described the evil trying to control the Isle of Skye. Good vs Evil is the theme. It was a little iffy which one would win. The author will have my mind going crazy for months to come. This is book one in the Skye Druid series. There are so many possibilities of what will happen in future books. I, for one, can't wait to see what happens next.

I was excited for Iron Ember and the excitement was worth it. This new series promises to be every bit as intriguing and captivating as all the other Donna Grant stories. Scott and Elodie’s story is a must read.
